MIND administers the Secretarial Qualifying Examinations on behalf of the Services Commission.  The examinations are designed to test and certify that prospective appointees are able to articulate orally and in written form and perform at the standard required of Civil Servants.  Successful completion of the examination is a requirement for confirmation in the posts of Secretary and Administrative

OPS/SS1 Qualifying Examinations consist of three papers; each paper is marked out of 100

General Paper (English, Current Affairs, Business Mathematics Level 1)

Production (Production and formatting of office documents, computer Speed test (35 words per minute).

Office Procedures, (basic information on the roles and functions of the office environment).

Assistants at the Senior Secretary I & II levels within central government.


Marking Mechanism

All papers in each examination are compulsory

Candidates must pass all three (3) exams.

The Pass mark is 50%

You are allowed one re-sit attempt. If the paper sat is failed on the re-sit attempt the candidate will be recommended to do the Administrative Management Level 1 Programme.


SPEED AND PRODUCTION


Speed and production is designed to test typing speed and production. The speed segment has to be passed if the participant is to be successful in the exam.

The minimum speed required for SS1 is 35wpm

EXAMINATION

All exams commence at 1pm on the scheduled days. and will be held online. 

Candidates are encouraged to log into Moodle at least 15 minutes 

Examination guidelines will be given before the examination begins.

Cheating will result in an automatic zero grade awarded to candidate.

Please follow all instructions. Read ALL instructions  before attempting each question. Once you select submit you cannot change your answer on a multiple choice question.

Please manage your time well.

PRODUCTION

Candidates should be able to type Memos, Reports and Letters using Microsoft Word.

Participants are encouraged to practice saving their documents in folders and to use formatting features to create documents

Participants Selection

The Office of the Services Commission sends a compiled list of all participants for the Secretarial Qualifying Examinations. The persons are selected by the various Ministries and Departments
