The course largely focuses on microeconomics and seeks to give participants a basic understanding of how prices are formed in markets. To do so, it explores how markets function, and how the behaviour of the individual buyers and sellers interact to determine the prices. The behaviour in turn is explained by way of models of decision-making by consumers and producers under different assumptions about the structure of markets along a spectrum from ‘competitive’ to ‘monopoly’.
