Introduction to Project Management

Project management is the art and science of initiating, planning, executing, controlling, and closing the work of a team to achieve specific goals, meet specific success criteria, at a specified time, given a set of constraints. In practice, the management of projects requires the acquisition of specific knowledge, the development of distinct technical skills, tools, techniques, and the employment of management strategies to a broad range of activities to meet the requirements of a particular project. A project on the other hand is a temporary endeavor designed to produce a unique product, service or result with a defined beginning and end, typically to bring about beneficial change or added value. Projects are now the main instrument by which society creates new value in an increasingly complex economic and business environment.

 


Sociology within the Caribbean Context

This course provides an introduction to the problems, issues, themes and main ideas of Sociology. It is intended to convey basic social facts on Caribbean and developing societies, and to enable participants to adopt a scientific approach to the problems of social and economic analysis. The course seeks to address issues of critical importance to the development of the Caribbean region. It is intended to enhance participants’ sense of their potential and responsibilities as citizens of the Caribbean community.
