Human Resource Planning is a source of competitive advantage for organisations. Through Human
Resource Planning, Human Resource practitioners become business partners ensuring alignment of
the human resource functions and the organisation’s plans and strategy. Consequently, this course is
designed to expose participants to the strategic importance of Human Resource Planning. Participants
will examine the core concepts, elements and issues of Human Resource Planning and be equipped
with the competencies to forecast human resource demand and supply. Participants will also examine
trends and best practices in ensuring that the organisation’s human resource requirements are met.

This course defines the theoretical prospective of Industrial Relations and describes the basic concepts
Labour Relations in the productive environment. It exposes participants to the scope of the
employment Relationship and demonstrates the linkages with other human resource functions.
Participants will have a better understanding and appreciation for the role, function and importance
of this discipline in the workplace and the wider labour market. The course covers Collective
Bargaining, Trade Unionism, Industrial Conflict, Labour Market, Labour Law, the history and
evolution of the modern trade union movement in Jamaica.

Participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of public sector management and analysis. The
course seeks to facilitate an analysis of management in this sector. Managers who possess significant
experience and skills and beginners who need the basic foundations will both benefit, albeit in different
ways. The varied groups and individuals will have a common understanding of the foundation
concepts that would provide the premise for advanced training, and improved practice in public sector
management.
