The Protected Disclosures Act, 2011 (the Act), was designed
to encourage and facilitate the making by employees of specified disclosures of
improper conduct in the public interest, inter alia. The Designated Officer,
appointed pursuant to Section 13 (3) of the Act, is conferred with the requisite
authority to receive, take steps to investigate or otherwise deal with a
disclosure made. In order to function effectively, Officers need to be aware of
their authority.
This training, therefore, creates an awareness of the
provisions of the Act, and helps to develop the appropriate skillset in the
handling of protected disclosures. This will also assist management in the
development and execution of policies and recommended practices that encourage
and facilitate the making of disclosures of improper conduct or occupational
detriment.
