Course Description

This course is designed to expose participants to the international framework within which the JCA operates and will highlight the various international treaties and agreements which govern the import and export of goods and services

Course Objectives

On completion of this course, participants should be able to:

 Knowledge

·  Describe the international framework within which the JCA operates

·  Explain the purpose of international treaties and agreements

·  Outline the different international trade agreements to which Jamaica is signatory

·  State the function of the World Customs Organisation (WCO)

·   Explain the international regulations related to endangered and hazardous goods

·   Explain rules of origin and its relevance for the import and export of goods and services

Performance

·   Apply the rules of origin principles when importing or exporting goods

·   Adhere to the statutes of international conventions when trading goods

·   Effectively interface with other regional and international customs brokers based on international trade agreements

·    Develop strategies to garner the benefits of the varied trade agreement to which Jamaica is a signatory

·     Observe the rule and regulations of international trade

·     Demonstrate commitment to observe the stipulations of international trade-related treaties





Welcome to Module 2 and specifically, the Jamaica Customs Infrastructure and Procedures course.  This course  will expose you to the role and functions of the Jamaica Customs Agency(JCA), Customs Brokers and the National Organisations liaisons with which they interface.

It will be covered in 30 hours. Your assessment will include a Mid-Semester Examination and a Final Examination.
